That I understand, exactly the reason that European vacation does not happen as often as I'd like, since we go every year to Israel to visit family:-)
Did you ever apply to US visa? I hope you'll get it...
As far as planning goes, same thing happens with us and California - my plans are so big we can never fit them in a trip, so far only done Sun-Diego and Sun-Francisco.
For 6 years my husband worked for the company that sent him all over the world for business, so he has seen a lot, and I feel like in Soviet times - "Klub kinoputeshestvinnikov" - I saw the world through his pictures, and now I see yours:-)
